Yesterday, we cut the ribbon on our new (and second) Little Free Pie-Brary at our location in the Marietta Square!
You're probably wondering what in the heck is a Little Free Pie-Brary. It is a Little Free Library located outside of our retail location that can be accessed 24/7 to Take A Book or Leave A Book!
The installation of our new Little Free Pie-Brary in Marietta is a fun and creative way for us to connect with and deepen our roots in our community. We have been finding ways to continue to connect and spread joy as part of our "For the Masses" Project, and with March 2021 being National Reading Month, we thought what better way than by adding yet another Little Free Pie-Brary, but this time at our Marietta Location!
You read that right -- this is Pie Bar's second Little Free Pie-Brary installment. The first was installed in Downtown Woodstock in June 2019, as a part of Pie Bar's "30 Days of Kindness" initiative. The Woodstock Little Free Pie-Brary initially got its start when a loyal customer brought in books to share with our team, and we felt like we needed to share her generosity with our community.
With the success of the 30 Days of Kindness initiative, the idea for "For the Masses" was born. The "For the Masses" project provides ways for community members to connect with one another, whether they live locally or not. Previous events have included an online Bake-Along with Lauren, where students made a CranPeary Pie at home.
Upcoming events include plans for a DIY Terrarium Class using coffee grounds for Earth Day, and an online Biscuit Class with a local biscuit maker for National Biscuit Day.
Our team worked with the Downtown Marietta Development Authority to choose the location of the new Little Free Pie-Brary. It's painted in Pie Bar's signature colors, white and black, and stands approximately 30 inches tall. The Little Free Pie-Brary is located at the end of Powder Springs Street right before crossing the railroad tracks on the Mountain to River Trail.
On March 30th, 2021, we hosted a small Little Free Pie-Brary Ribbon Cutting Ceremony, with speakers including Abby Smith, the Welcome Center Manager for the Marietta Visitors Bureau and Lauren Bolden, the owner of Pie Bar.
Lauren conducted the ceremonial "first book" swap, the ribbon cut, and complimentary coffee & pie were had!
We thank all guests for attending our little ceremony -- for bringing books to donate, stories to share, and empty bellies for...well, pie!
