People Behind the Pie: Sarah S!

People Behind the Pie: Sarah S!

Pie Bar Superlative: Most likely to have a Werther’s Caramel Candy in her pocket at any given time.
Say hello to Sarah Anne Scott! She grew up just a tad southwest of here in Newnan, Georgia. When she was all grown and ready to leave the nest, she enrolled at Kennesaw State University. She found a passion for food and settled into the Culinary Sustainability and Hospitality program.
Sarah joined the Pie Bar team in 2016 as our first-ever intern! She worked her butt off and decided that bakery life is definitely for her. After her internship ended, we couldn’t get her out of our minds, so we asked her to come back as a part-time kitchen assistant. Fast forward to the graduation song and diplomas being handed off, and Sarah found herself graduating from college and accepting a full-time position with us as a Pie Baker and Assistant Kitchen Manager.
Being a pie baker doesn’t leave much time for shooting the breeze, so I stepped into the kitchen and as Sarah separated eggs, we dove right in. Below is the transcript from our conversation.
LB: Why did you decide to move to the Woodstock area?
SS: I moved to Kennesaw to attend KSU right after high school. Kennesaw isn’t too far from home so I still had the opportunity to stay close to my family, but it is just far enough that I had a bit more independence. During my time at KSU I interned at Pie Bar in Woodstock. When I graduated I knew I wanted to stay on staff, so I packed my bags and moved just down the road. Although it’s not technically Woodstock, it’s pretty close!
LB: Why did you decide to work with food?
SS: Food has a way of bringing people together. I love how you might have nothing in common with someone, but you can always find something common in food. Its common ground for most people.
LB: What is your favorite food to make at home?
SS: I love to bake at home. I love baking double chocolate brownies at home and baking cookies with my Mom.
LB: That’s adorable.
SS: Thank you.
LB: What food would you choose if you were on death row and it was your final meal?
SS: GASP!!
LB: Calm down, you’re not actually on Death Row. It’s a hypothetical question…unless you’re hiding something...
SS: Homemade Fettucine Alfredo cooked by a Michelin Star Chef with a molten lava chocolate cake from chilis.
LB: I love your specificity.

LB: What is your favorite Pie Bar pie to eat?
SS: Bourbon Chocolate Pecan
LB: And favorite Pie Bar pie to bake?
SS: Peanut Butter Cream and Key Lime. They were the first two pies I learned how to bake!
LB: Why did you choose Pie Bar as you first full-time gig?
SS: I loved the opportunities presented to me at Pie Bar. Since it is a small business, there is more opportunity to learn new tasks, and it allows more of a sense of community.
LB: What is an interesting fact about you?
SS: I love baby pigs.
LB: Please expand.
SS: I want to be like Uptown Girl..but I don’t want my life to be as tragic. Basically, I just want the pig.
LB: What is your favorite shop or restaurant in Downtown Woodstock?
SS: Christine’s Creations for shopping and Ipps for eating.
LB: What is a funny anecdote about yourself that you are willing to share?
SJ: I guess I would say I’m an “old soul”.
LB: You guess?
SJ: Well, I enjoy antiquing, baking, and scheduling doctors’ appointments.
LB: Old soul, party of one.
A huge thank you to Sarah S. for allowing me to distract her while she was trying to work. We love our staff and we are so proud to call her a Pie Bar Team Member.
