On Pursuit

On Pursuit

Sarah Scott, Pie Bar

Being fresh out of college, it feels as if the world is just at your feet. The opportunities are endless and your dreams are as close to coming true as you want them to be! (Cue laughter of just being a naïve twenty-something).

Then life stars hitting you. Bills pile up, student loans are knocking at your door, and the day-in-and day out life starts to become routine. And in the midst of it all, I start to question when did people start letting their dreams become a distant reality or in many cases just fantasy?

Throughout college, I had many people question my career path. They would say things along the lines of, “Oh that’s great, but you need to be realistic,” or my personal favorite, “Oh you just want to bake your whole life?!”….well YEAH! It seems like a pretty sweet gig to me. (cheesy pun, totally intended).

Your dreams, passions, and pursuits will have people questioning you and they will look vastly different from one person to the next. But the thing is, they are YOUR dreams, YOUR passions, and YOUR pursuits.

Recently Pie Bar just celebrated its two-year anniversary! Wow! How great?! And wouldn’t you know, it is a result of two people just slightly crazy enough to pursue their passions to the fullest! I am sure that people were telling them that the idea of quitting your corporate job is insane. I am sure that they were feeling unsure of themselves at times and I am sure that they were not fully expecting all the hard work it takes to make your dream a reality. But THEY DID IT. They put in the time, they blocked out the negativity, and they went for it! Now you can enjoy all the pie that your little heart’s desire…you’re welcome!

“You can only become truly accomplished at something you love. Don’t make money your goal. Instead pursue the things you love doing and then do them so well that people can’t take their eyes off of you.” – Maya Angelou

Whether you pursue your passion as a full-time career or whether you pursue them off the clock don’t lose sight of them and don’t give up. They are what will fuel your soul in the midst of the chaos. So there it is, unwarranted advice from a twenty-something.
