Honoring Heroes Locally

Honoring Heroes Locally

Antonio Hunt, Pie Bar

1971 marked the official recognition of one very important holiday, a holiday meant to honor the brave men and women who proudly served our country. A day known simply as, Memorial Day.

Memorial Day is a holiday that I have held very near and dear to my heart. Not only do I have unending respect and admiration for the brave folks who have served our country, but my Grandfather on my father's side served within the Air Force as a lieutenant colonel during the Korean war.

On Memorial Day, I find myself visiting many history books. Reading all about the heroism that many soldiers engaged in during their service, feeling a sense of pride as I read each word. This year, I wanted to share with you some local events that you, your family, and your friends may be interested in attending within our community:

Local Events in Honor of
Memorial Day

Local Memorial Day Parades

A favorite pastime for many is attending parades that honors our soldiers. On May 31st, there is a Memorial Parade in Dacula, Georgia.

Memorial Weekend 5K/10K

There is a 5K/10K in Marietta during Memorial Weekend that honors those who gave all. You can participate in-person, as well as virtually.

Memorial Day Ceremony

If you're a local to Woodstock, The City of Woodstock along with the American Legion Post 316, Marine Corps League Detachment 1311, Warriors’ Watch Riders, and other local veteran’s groups, honor those who fought and died to keep us free.

My family and I plan to attend a National Park within Georgia that weekend. We always make sure to take a moment to thank all of the brave and proud men and women for all they do for us and for their service.

So, however you choose to remember and honor the soldiers who have served and continued to serve, make sure to always let them know how much you appreciate their service. To the brave men and women who may be reading this I thank you for your service.
