Local Gems in the Marietta Square

Local Gems in the Marietta Square

By Eliza Craft and Lily Buehler, Pie Bar Marietta

Since we opened our doors here in Marietta last August, we have enjoyed exploring the downtown area and eating our way around the square. As Front of House members, Eliza and I have tasted the local foods of Marietta and visited the local stores after our shifts.

Located right next door to our shop’s left is Two Birds Taphouse. They have an expansive alcohol menu, but what we love the most is their pizza! Their wood-fired pizza is delicious, so delicious that we stopped in the other night after our shift. Eliza’s favorite pizza is their “Sweet Cheesus” pizza. It is their signature crust, topped with ricotta, provolone, and drizzled with chili honey and topped with fresh basil. I mean…come on! My mouth is watering as I write about it! Their new street corn pizza is another one I definitely recommend, but get it soon because it is seasonal.

Take a walk down Powder Springs Street and make a left on Mill Street and you will arrive at StockYard. Stockyard’s menu features “burgers and bones,” a combination of classic burgers and bbq style meats. While everything on their menu sounds delectable, we can’t pass up a classic burger. Lily’s personal favorite is the “Jane’s Not So Plain”  burger which comes with cheddar, lettuce, tomato, and smoked paprika aioli which makes this classic burger oh-so special. Another thing to not miss out on is a side of their sweet potato tots dipped in one of their specialty sauces.

Now moving somewhat away from food, if you head down Powder Springs Street and take a right on South Park Square you’ll find a fun shop called The Local Exchange. The Local Exchange describes themselves as a “modern day general store” and by general store, we mean they carry everything you could possibly need! They sell everything from soaps and lotions to our trusty ole’ take and bake pot pies from yours truely, Pie Bar. ;) And that's not to mention their amazing website. Most everything they sell at the Local Exchange is local and supports Marietta vendors and local farmers.

These are just a few of the gems that Marietta has to offer and that we have had the opportunity to explore. If you get a chance to visit downtown Marietta, visit during the day to window shop and again at night to try out a few dinner spots, listen to some live music, and maybe top the night off with a slice from Pie Bar!
